"In business world there is no substitute for right information at right time. It is evident that in last couple of decade’s attempts has been made to develop systems which make information more precise, readily available and easily accessible throughout the organisation. The development and use of information systems is a modern trend which is primarily concerned with the collection, process and dissimilation of useful information that directs an organisation for better planning, better decision making and ultimately the better results. Any business can be successful only when there is a consistent management of organizational and financial data with efficient information systems. Most of the companies have seen a drift in the process of workflow due to the accuracy and reliability. There is no alternative for the right information at the required time in the world of business where every industry revolves round the ""Internet of Things"". This raised the need to innovate and develop the systems that can be implemented to make information accurate that can be quickly accessed on demand. An effective information system can entitle an organization with better planning, decision-making and hence desired results. Part of management is gathering and distributing information, and information systems can make this process more efficient by allowing managers to communicate rapidly. Email is quick and effective, but managers can use information systems even more efficiently by storing documents in folders that they share with the employees who need the information. This type of communication lets employees collaborate in a systematic way.
Each employee can communicate additional information by making changes that the system tracks. The manager collects the inputs and sends the newly revised document to his target audience.
This book is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of how Information Systems are used in organizations for meeting strategic and operational goals. To that end, students will acquire skills using current end-user software for communication, data transformation, collaboration, and problem-solving. The book also covers software and hardware components, information structures, basic business organization and processes, information system security, and networks.
Information systems and information management is a vast subject. In order to discuss the importance of information systems for an organization, the fundamental concepts like what is information, how it can be managed must be acknowledged.
In this book, students examine how an information system can manage a business' processes and organization, as well as the factors that can influence a business selection of their IS. Students also study how databases are used in business to collect data, the different methodologies used to develop an IS, its functional systems, and the fundamentals of communication and networking within a system and among multiple systems. Students also evaluate the Internet's impact on the use of IS in organizations. Finally, students will study the variety of roles and responsibilities within an IS department and the role of management, as well as ethical considerations and how an organization must protect itself against system threats."
